Stayed at this campsite for three nights, the people running it were lovely and couldnt be more helpful, its situated on the grounds of a beautiful Manor House and is a short walk from ashridge forest and beautiful country surroundings, there are toilet facilities but no shower facilities as yet but they werent far off being completed, for the price you pay you cant complain, very good value and would definitely recommend, we shall be returning here for sure
Three families with kids stayed for the weekend. The main problem with this campsite was the lack of facilities. There are two very basic, dark, unhygienic toilets for the whole campsite (not suitable for young kids). By the end of the weekend there were 40+ tents so most people by then were quite openly using the main driveway next to the campsite. So people going to the toilet meters from where we're cooking and sleeping The only source of water (inc. drinking water) is also in these toilets - so no tap in the campsite itself. They also expect you to take all your rubbish home with you. The guy who runs it seemed nice enough but the people he left in charge the second day were "spaced out". Lots of vans and people driving up and down the drive at all times of day and night. Do not recommend for people with kids.
Simply awful. We came as a group of 3 families with children. There was broken glass and condoms on the field, a car park which looked like a junkyard, disgusting toilets. A busy train line nearby and loads of cars going up and down the drive to the house. The owner was quite friendly though but the whole place looks derelict. No idea who'd want to spend a week end there. Definitely not the bucolic place we were hoping for.
If you enjoy proper wild camping like us then this is a great little campsite.Pros- Car park is right next to the camping area, fire pits are provided, wood to burn is easily found and the campsite is located in a lovely area for just relaxing by the tent or going on walks. Toilets are also available.Cons- the car park and camping area are both quite small so this can be a downer if it gets busy and you end up with noisey neighbours like we did on our second night. Although toilets are provided they are very old and basic with no lighting so make sure you take a torch in the dark and possibly your own toilet roll. Also drinking water was murky when coming out of the taps so we played it safe and stuck with bottled water.The campsite is located on the grounds of an old, huge house which outwardly looks quite spooky and there are a few stone Dragon features around which gives the place a lot of character which we loved! If you're happy with the basics then this could be the place for you however if you like to be located where all the action is and facilities are 5* then this probably isn't the place for you. We however will definitely be returning.
Nice place but small, and overcrowded this weekend. Toilet facilities very, very basic and not clean at all. Some kind of signage would be useful to advise where you can camp and what facilities are available where. Was unable to find a standpipe for water and was told to use a short hose tap in one of the two toilets. Word of warning. If you are quiet campers (like us), this is not the place for you.
